BRIGHT-EYED MEDIA, INC. is a Non-Fiction TV casting, development and production company. Our goal is to create fun and informative series that make people feel; whether that's through mouth-watering imagery, the pulse of music, authentic characters, or by sharing eye-opening insights; always with a positive spin.
We've worked with TV networks and digital streamers including; Netflix, MTV, Food Network, Discovery, Science, FYI and Snapchat; as well as private clients such as the Producer’s Guild of America. We build our character driven series' around celebrities, influencers and experts who work in food, music, fashion, beauty, home design & renovation. We sold a competition series, Munch Rush to Food Network Digital in 2017 — we oversaw all aspects of development, production & post-production — creative, staffing and legal. The series was an Official Selection in the New York Women in Film and Television Fall Shorts Festival.
As the Head of Development and Production at Bright-Eyed Media, Jamie Kohen works closely with agents, high-profile talent and network executives to ideate, cast and produce original non-fiction TV series. As a Casting Director in non-fiction TV (Netflix, MTV, Food Network, Discovery, Science, FYI) she’s run large teams on 160+ TV episodes — documentary, unscripted, competitions — working in development, on pilots and on some of the longest-running, Emmy Award-winning series on TV.
In 2018, she ran the casting team on Netflix’s Critics’ Choice Award-winning series Dating Around. The program features one of the most diverse casts ever to appear in a non-fiction program. She also cast MTV’s True Life, an Emmy-Award winning documentary series and one of MTV’s longest-running programs. This episode focuses on ‘identity’ and highlights stories from young people faced with life-changing realizations.
Jamie developed, sold and produced Munch Rush, a Food Network x Snapchat 3-part limited series, which was produced by her company Bright-Eyed Media in 2017 — and was an Official Selection in the NY Women in Film & TV Fall Shorts Festival. She got her start in television working on 150+ TV episodes for Food Network, including their longest-running competition series Chopped (18-seasons); as well as Throwdown with Bobby Flay and Chopped Junior.
Jamie worked in restaurant marketing, branding and design for a decade (1999-2010) before transitioning into non-fiction TV. Her marketing clients in New York City included; il Buco, Balthazar, Morandi, Pravda and The Meatball Shop. She also represented "Celebrity Psychic" Judi Hoffman and Brooklyn-based, eco-friendly real estate developer Greenstone. She worked on the design team of renowned NYC Restaurateur Keith McNally for whom she launched multiple business lines; including Pastis To-Go, Balthazar Catering, the rebranding of Balthazar Bakery and more! She also sourced and purchased architectural salvage and interior home elements for the gut renovation & restoration of McNally's NYC townhouse. Hospitality, budgeting, aesthetics and a unique attention to detail are at her core.
Jamie studied Interior Space Planning at Parsons School of Design and her unbounded interest lies in developing eye-opening series that are rooted in the powerful impact of the arts on people. Cultural experiences get this globe-trotting, New York City native lit!
